Enterprise for All - A Framework for Action

The National Education Business Partnership Network recognises the importance of the developing enterprise agenda.
It is committed to working towards a National Enterprise Programme, which will:
support all teachers and young people meeting the enterprise challenge
support business by developing motivated and informed employees
provide brokerage and expertise through local Education Business Partnership (EBPs)
EBPs have a record of effective, high quality cost-effective outputs and work with over 190,000 employers nationwide. All activities run by EBPs will have a substantial business involvement.

Key Learning Objectives
By taking part in enterprise activities young people should gain:
an understanding of key economic concepts and how businesses work
enhanced enterprise skills including problem solving, risk taking and money management
greater knowledge of the local economy e.g. employment opportunities
the ability to make informed judgements about economic issues

These objectives closely match those of the work related framework, but are applicable across all key stages.

How do we do this?
Activities include:

Enterprise Challenges
Teams of pupils and students work with companies on real business problems either during a day's event, or over a longer period of time.

Visits to Companies
Customised visits to local companies in order to develop an understanding of how businesses operate.

Enterprise Business Days
These provide the opportunity for young people to gain an understanding of business processes and applications.

Mini-Enterprise
Supporting young people in establishing their own small businesses within the school or the wider community.

Enterprise Focused Professional Development Placements
Tailored placements in a business environment.

Specialised Work Experience
Providing students with specific assignments or challenges as an aspect of their work experience.

Enterprise Resource Materials
Producing support materials for schools.

EBPs can help schools and colleges in their area by:
providing advice and guidance on enterprise strategy
creating contexts for developing and embed enterprise within the curriculum to meet the requirements of DfES and OFSTED
engaging businesses in the delivery of enterprise activities
promoting best practice in enterprise activities through planning, monitoring, evaluation and dissemination

Flyers
The Network has produced two flyers, which outline links with work experience and professional development placements.
